How Are Lab-Grown Diamonds Made?

CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition) Diamonds
Lab-grown diamonds start with a thin slice of diamond seed.
This seed is placed in a sealed chamber and heated to a high temp.
The chamber is then filled with carbon-rich gasses.
A diamond is born when carbon merges with the diamond seed.
The rough diamond is then cut to exacting standards.
The end result is a diamond with the same chemical makeup as a natural diamond.
HPHT (High Pressure, High Temp-erature) Diamonds
A diamond seed is placed in a specialized press.
The growth chamber of the press is heated to 1300-1600 °C, and the pressure applied is above 870,000 pounds per square inch.
Molten metal dissolves the carbon source.
Carbon atoms trigger the growth of a small diamond seed crystal.
A lab-grown diamond is cultivated and then cut to meet exacting standards.
The final result is a diamond with the same chemical composition as a natural diamond.
